Villa Rothmayer
The house was commissioned by the architect Otto Rothmayer for his family during 1929–1930. Today, the villa is one ofthe significant monuments of Czech interwar architecture. At the same time, the state of the preservation of the house, its interiors and garden providesa unique testimony about the Rothmayer family’s working environment, intellectual background, and lifestyle.
The concept of the permanent exhibition is, among other things, based on the restoration of the interiors and garden to their appearance in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Entitled The Story of A House and Family, the exhibition adds original furnishings to the construction-stable building with professionally restored interiors. A few pieces of furniture were sensitively added to accommodate visitors. Encompassing the basement as well as the ground and first floors, the exhibition is not only dedicated to the oeuvre of Otto and Božena Rothmayer, but also reflects ontheir artistic friends.
